Got this one from the Duvel Guy in Utrecht.
From a bottle into a snifter
Best Before 24 October 2022
Brewed with cranberries, jupiner berries and coffee beans
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, slightly fizzy light tan head with very good retention. Clear black body with a bit of carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full foamy cap. Ring and splotchy wisp remains but leaves no real lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Very boozy and alcoholic nose with notes of bourbon, vanilla cream, toffee and butterscotch, hints of milk chocolate and some light berry qualities. Very bold with lots of spicy alcohol.
TASTE: Boozy up front with alcohol and bourbon, as well as some nice sweet toffee and butterscotch and notes of vanilla. Plenty of alcohol there and it makes itself hear at the swallow. Bold and lingering finish of bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate, butterscotch and light hints of berries. Plenty of spicy alcohol as well. This is a boozy one and the barrel certainly plays a big role here.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down with a bite and finishes sticky on the palate. Lots of booze lingers.
OVERALL: This is big one for sure. Lots of spicy booze and bourbon all over this one. The base beer still delivers some character with the berry additions and some milk chocolate underneath, but the alcohol and bourbon barrel aging are definitely in the forefront. Pretty good stuff and well worth checking out if you’re a fan of the style and brewery, but at the same time, the barrel aging kind of dominates the character of base. These would definitely be fun to try side-by-side. Cheers!
