Purchased as part of the International Beer Collector subscription. Drunk in June 2022.
This one grew on me. At first blush, the pineapple comes across as artificial and plastic, but by the time I was halfway through the glass it had mellowed to the point it was complementing the hefeweizen yeast, but was still not quite right. Regardless, a refreshing beer for a hot day.
Look: hazy golden yellow. A small coating of bright white head. Strong carbonation is evident.
Smell: artificial pineapple, spicey yeast. Fresh in the glass there is something off, almost faecal, but it fades as the beer warms. Smell marked down as a result.
Taste: strong artificial pineapple, banana, pepper and peach. The can says there's real pineapple in the beer so I guess I'll believe them. There's a tangy finish.
Mouthfeel: smooth on the swallow, but prickly carbonation on the tongue. That's hugely contradictory but it's what I perceived.
As per the opening comment, it grew on me but had a rough start, and even at the end still had something artificial about the taste. Maybe the yeast and pineapple together gave it a more "plastic" feel than the pineapple taste you get from hops in something like an IPA? Honestly, I don't know!
Cheers
