I entered this as a German Helles Lager, though it's not really a German Helles. This is a hoppy lager. I've heard this style described as an India Pale Lager but that's not a style option here, so I did the best I could.
Got this one from the Duvel guy. Cheers!
From a 440ml can into a pint glass
Canned 8 November 2018
DDH India Pale Lager
APPEARANCE: Pours a 1+ finger, looser looking, foamy white head with good retention. Relatively clear light amber yellow with a bit of carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a faint wisp and leaves touches of lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Hop forward nose of honeydew melon, mango, pineapple and some light notes of grapefruit and caramel aromas. Bold enough too.
TASTE: Hop forward flavor as well. Caramel, honeydew melon, mango and pineapple up front, with a bit of bready pilsner malts at the swallow. Bold finish of caramel, melon, mango, pineapple, a bit of hay and some piney bitterness lingers on the palate. Good stuff all around.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a touch dry. A bit of bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: Really good stuff. As far as lagers go, this is not typical for the style. It’s really hop forward and doesn’t remind me much at all of what I’d think of when thinking of a lager, but whatever. Lots of hop character and certainly enjoyable to drink. I managed to put away two cans in a very respectable time. Cheers!
