Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht. Cheers!
From a 440ml can into a pint glass
Canned 20 December 2018
India Pale Weizen
Note: Oddly enough, this has been entered as an American IPA. The brewery, however, calls it an India Pale Weizen and it drinks closer to a New England IPA with too much wheat malt. Either way, it's delicious.
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, foamier white head with good retention. Very hazy and opaque amber yellow, almost muddy, with no real carbonation evident. Slowly fades to a thin wisp. Splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Fruity nose of pineapple, mango, tropical fruits, tangerine and some pale malts. Bold nose. Nothing weizen about it.
TASTE: Lots of hops and a bit of wheat malt up front. Tropical fruits like pineapple, passion fruit, mango, and peaches, with a base of wheat malt as well. Some tropical fruit at the swallow with lots of fruity flavors, some wheat malt sweetness, and some decent hop bitterness linger on the palate. This is juicy and very NEIPA forward.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry on the palate.
OVERALL: This is a juicy, opaque NEIPA with a bit of wheat malt in it. The yeast is definitely not a German weizen yeast and the hop profile is all New England IPA. Calling it a weizen is obviously a huge, monumental stretch of the imagination here, but no matter what you call it, it’s an enjoyable, refreshing hop forward beer. Definitely something that should show up again during the warmer months in the spring. Nice stuff, guys. Cheers!
