Copenhagen 17/9 2019. 44 cl can from Den Gamle Købmand, Skt. Annæ Plads, Kbh. K. Indiana Jones-like White Bird trying to escape from a Charging Horde of minuscule Hedgehogs on the can. The weird thing is that the Hedgehogs looks pretty friendly.
Pours unclear dark brown with a red hue. Medium-sized off-white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense, roasted with lighter fruity and citric overtones. Dark, roasted malts, toasted, chocolate and caramel. Notes of Grape fruit and Lemon.
Medium carbonation. Slightly thick, lively yet soft texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste bitter sweet with a roasted tang. Lingers for a bit. Finish is bit thin.
Well balanced between sweet roastiness and citric bitterness. A bit thin in flavor though. Not bad.

Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 440ml can into a pint glass
Canned 04 April 2019
DDH Black IPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, foamy off-white head with good retention. Clear seal brown in color with minimal carbonation evident. Head recedes to a full wisp and clings to the glass. Faint wisp remains leaving some traces of lacing down the glass as it empties. Solid head on this one but the color is a touch light for the style.
SMELL: Citrus hops with grapefruit notes, pineapple, melon and piney aromas, as well as a nice roasted and chocolate malt base as well. Bold enough and interesting.
TASTE: Roasted and slightly chocolaty up front with some caramel sweetness and piney flavors as well. Some hop bitterness at the swallow, with another dose of roasted flavors, moving into a bold and lingering finish of roasted malts, chocolate notes, lots of citrus hops, grapefruit and pineapple, as well as a dose of piney bitterness too. Lots of roasted flavors and piney hop qualities. Sold all around.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit drier on the palate. Some decent bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is solid stuff. Not quite as black as some others in the black IPA style, but the roasted flavors and hop forward profile are all there, and they work well together. Something I’d be happy to drink regularly if it were easily available. Good stuff and worth checking out. Cheers!
