Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 440ml can into a snifter
Canned 21 August 2019
Grapefruit Double IPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a small, ½ finger, medium looking, creamy white head with good retention. Perfectly clear golden yellow with lower levels of carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full wisp and clings to the glass. Splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Honeydew melon, caramel and toffee aromas, pineapple, hints of lime, lemon citrus and grapefruit on the nose. Medium strength.
TASTE: Melon, caramel and toffee sweetness up front, with some tart lemon and some grapefruit bitterness at the swallow. Bold finish of malty sweetness, caramel, melon, honey, as well as some lemon and lime flavors and grapefruit bitterness lingers on the palate. Some hints of alcohol as well.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit drier. A touch of bitterness and alcohol linger.
OVERALL: Good stuff. Tasty and enjoyable, with just enough bitterness to make it rather refreshing on a warmer day. I’m not sure if there was any real grapefruit used in this brew but independent of that, the grapefruit flavor here is subtle and meshes well with the rest of the brew. Quality stuff that’s well worth checking out if you’re a fan of this brewery. Cheers!
