Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy head, mocha-colored head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, with lighter notes of cinnamon and coffee, as well as just a hint of vanilla and tobacco. Taste is a good balance of roasted, caramel malt, roasted coffee, dark, bitter chocolate, cinnamon and lighter notes of vanilla as well as just a hint of tobacco and bitter, herbal hops. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, coffee and cinnamon lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and light/medium carbonation.
While this may be just a tad too sweet for my personal taste, it's still very nicely balanced against some rather roasted, bitter notes, while the cinnamon and vanilla additions never feel too overdone and don't take away from the coffee, chocolate and tobacco notes imparted by the malts here. I'm not usually a huge fan of the style, this is a rather well-balanced Pastry Stout that never feels cloyingly sweet or lays the additives on quite too thick.
