Got this from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 44cl can into a snifter
Canned 4 December 2019
Includes juniper, orange peel and ginger
Christmas DIPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a small, one finger, slightly foamy white head with very good retention. Clear safety orange in color with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full wisp and ring. Faint wisp remains leaving decent lacing on the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Caramel malts, caramel, melon aromas, honeydew, with hints of citrus and pineapple on the nose as well. Medium strength.
TASTE: Caramel sweetness, melon flavors with honey dew and sweet candy up front. This is very malt forward. Some spicy flavors from the ginger at the swallow, then a bold finish of sweet caramel malts, melon flavors, honey, some spicy ginger flavor and a hint of pineapple linger on the palate. Sweet and forthcoming.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. A bit of alcohol lingers.
OVERALL: This is a bit too malt forward for my tastes. It’s called a “Christmas DIPA” and the ginger gives it a bit of a kick in the spicy direction, so that’s a fun twist. Don’t find it much of a DIPA, as the hop character is a little lacking. Well-made brew, but perhaps not my cup of tea.
