Got this from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 440ml can into a pint glass
Canned 20 November 2019
Ten Hop West Coast IPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, creamy and foamy off-white head with great retention. Perfectly clear burnt orange in color with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly recedes to a full wisp can and clings to the glass. A faint wisp remains leaving nice lacing down the glass as it empties. Good looking.
SMELL: Caramel and melon aromas, honey, citrus grapefruit and lemon notes, some orange, piney character and some alcohol on the nose. Bold and forthcoming.
TASTE: Caramel and honey sweetness with some melon and citrus hops flavors up front. Grapefruit and hints or orange as well. Some piney hop bitterness and alcohol at the swallow, moving into a big and lingering finish of caramel sweetness, honeydew and melon character, light citrus and orange flavors, some piney bitterness and a bit of alcohol on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough, a little foamy perhaps, goes down fine and finishes a touch mouth-coating. A bit of heat lingers. No real bitterness.
OVERALL: This is a big one. Lots going on here and it’s certainly got a sweet enough finish to border on the edges of hop-forward barleywine territory. This one is now approaching four months old and while it’s still got plenty of hop character, it might have been interesting to try this one right out of the gate. That said, I rather enjoy DIPA that look like they want to cross over to the other side, so this one was well received. Check it out if you’ve still got access to them. Cheers!
