Got this one from the Duvel Guy in Utrecht. Cheers!
From a 44cl can into a pint glass
Canned 5 October 2020
West Coast IPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, medium looking, creamy, frothy white head with excellent retention. Perfectly clear amber orange with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full, frothy cap and coats the glass with creamy lacing. A splotchy wisp remains and leaves some lovely lacing down the glass as it empties. A beauty.
SMELL: Lots of caramel malts, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, grapefruit aromas, some lemon citrus and touches of pineapple on the nose. Bold.
TASTE: Caramel malt sweetness, some melon flavors, biscuit flavors and touches of alcohol up front, then a decent dose of bitterness at the swallow. Bold finish of caramel sweetness, melon flavors, some lemon and grapefruit bitterness and a touch of spicy alcohol lingers nicely on the palate. Some biscuit notes as well. Quite flavorful and a touch more alcoholic than most at this ABV.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. A touch of bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is a solid effort. It’s really good looking, the nose is really nice and it’s quite flavorful, though there’s a bit more of an alcohol presence than I’d expect for a sub 7% beer, and the biscuit character is a little different. A good brew for sure and definitely worth drinking while you can, though be prepared for more than the advertised 6.8. Another good one from Uiltje’s bi-weekly series. Cheers!
