It's a sweet stout, and provided you know what you're getting it's very enjoyable, but probably in an I've-had-one-and-that's-enough kind of way.
It pours a very attractive jet black with minimal carbonation and almost no head.
It smells sweet - you know what you're about to get.
Initially the beer is chocolatey, with strong vanilla/lactic taste, but as the beer warms up cinnamon and milk chocolate come to the fore. It remains a sweet beer, but it's not overbearingly so. The alcohol is extremely well hidden.
Mouthfeel is rich, velvety and unctuous. It perfectly matches the beer in the glass.
Overall, it's an excellent winter warmer. I actually drank this on a wet autumn evening in front of a roaring fire. Maybe there were points for ambience, but a beer that speaks to the atmosphere of the moment is doing is job, and doing it well.
Cheers!
