Back by popular demand, our infamous barleywine with enough horsepower to propel a royal carriage and enough elegance to be sipped by bitcoin billionaires and dot.com kings. Aged in oak barrels like fine wine and even finer cognac, it’s a balmy aperitif for dark winter days. Don’t let the can fool you, our cuvee is a gentleman’s beer. So be gentlemanly.

Got this one from the Duvelguy in Utrecht

From a can into a snifter
Canned 02 December 2020

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, slightly foamy and crackly off-white head with okay retention. Clear rust in color with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full wisp and clings to the glass. Finishes a bit flat but leaves some dots of lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Caramel and notes of toffee, with big citrus aromas of grapefruit, lemon and orange citrus notes, as well as touches of bubble gum. Medium strength.

TASTE: Caramel and toffee flavors, with bubble gum, some citrusy flavors and grapefruit up front. More citrus and sweet malts at the swallow. Bold finish of caramel sweetness, bubble gum, citrus orange and lemon flavors, some bitter grapefruit and touches of alcohol linger on the swallow. Flavorful, and quote hop forward.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, lighter, a touch foamy, goes down fine and finishes a touch mouth-coating. Some bitterness lingers. No real heat at all.

OVERALL: Really good stuff. Might as well call it a triple IPA. This is definitely a hop forward interpretation of the style, but that’s fine by me. Lighter and the booze is nowhere to be found here. Rather dangerous if it’s really 12% ABV. This is a good one and it drinks as easy as a hop-forward beer should. Recommended checking out if you’re a fan of hoppy barleywines.
