The final stop in our Wish You Were Here!… Athens. For our latest single-hop beauty, we flex our god-like muscles and quote Pindar the poet who nicknamed Athens ‘The City of the Violet Crown’. This nickname inspired us to brew with Azacca, a hop known for its purplish hue. Get it? Hope so! A NEIPA with a lesson in Greek history… put that on your postcard!

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, foamy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical/citrus hops, with notes of mango, pineapple and tangerine, with some grassy accents as well. Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slighty grassy, herbal, resinous hops, with tropical and citrus notes of mango, papaya, pineapple, tangerine and lime peel, with just the merest hint of pine coming through as well. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some mango, pineapple and tangerine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I always love a single-hop IPA and though that this one was particularly interesting because Azacca wasn't really a hop I had on my radar that much and was quite surprised by its range. The sweet tropical notes are most dominant here, backed up by lighter, slighty zesty citrus notes and mere hints of grassy/herbal and resinous accents as well. Overall, this makes for a very nice NEIPA, with vibrant, well-defined hop notes and a good body and mouthfeel for the ABV.
