A 330ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2018. Acquired a while back from a webshop. Described on the label as a pine-laden IPA; bitter like the winter wind, flavoured like Christmas trees....
A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned and quite lively. A deep, hazy amber hue with intense carbonation and plentiful suspended sediment. Yields a massive head of fluffy white foam with excellent retention; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing.
S: Aroma of fruity hops with hints of mild resin, subtle weed, light citrus, fruity yeast esters, earthiness and pale malt. Quite nice, though not exactly a pine-bomb.
T: Tastes of mildly fruity hops with notes of citrus, peel, subtle tropical fruit, light pine resin, mild weed, hay, a vague leafiness, fruity Belgian yeast, earthiness and pale malt. Pretty dry, followed by a delicate hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and great body. Somewhat astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of crisp fruity hops, mild pine resin, light citrus, yeast esters, earthiness and pale malt.
O: Understated but satisfying. Looks fantastic, while the aroma and flavour achieve great balance between the hop and yeast characters. Lovely body. While the label mentions pine, it also makes clear that this brewery tries to tread a path where the flavour components of their beers don't clash. Hence the relative subtlety of the hops in this brew. Very nicely done - a quality beer.
