Comes out of the gate with a nice German maltiness. Deeply roasty with a prolonged aftertaste. As the beer warms, it gets a little boozy. But overall, a very nice effort.

4/10/18...dark hazy brown with heavy white foam. Lips out of the bottle. Sandy bitter nose, dirty. Some fruit pokes out. Funked out flavors. Loads of bubble gun, grasses and citrus. Maybe a hint of winter green mint. Clever.

Appearance: golden yellow in color with a 1" head that falls to some surface bubbles.

Smell: fruity and floral aroma.

Taste: caramel, bread, mild red grapes, honey, orange, and a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp throughout.

Overall: a good maibock that is slow sipping but satisfying.

From the large bottle, it pours a clear golden amber with a nice head. Malt in the nose. Malt in the mouth. Nice! Decent American version of the German beer style.

Most Maibocks in Germany are a bit lower in strength, but this is America and we do things STRONG!

s: grains, honey, fresh dough, sweet malts, crackers, slight citrus zest, and an earthy spice

t: sweet malts, honey, sweet grains, grass, and dough up front. behind that on the back of the tongue there is a mild herbal bitterness. there is that characteristic 'lager' taste in here as well.

m: lighter side of medium. medium carbonation level despite

o: this is a clean and crisp tasting beer. the flavors in the mouth go from one to another rapidly, but in a good order. it's extremely dangerous at 8%. tasty Maibock here. nice Spring beer

American Maibocks typically ain't too great--are sometimes even horrible--but Flying Fish has been doing a real good job with their Exit series so I figured this was worth a sawbuck.

Pours very pale, more like a German version of the style than, say, Dead Guy. Pretty, filtered yellow, good bubbliness, nice white head.

Smells bready, bocky, and very smooth. Thankfully bereft of the sharp nodes of alcohol that drag down lesser version of the style.

Tastes very good overall, but there's a bit of unpleasant roughness on the finish. The front end is strong but smooth, big nodes of bread and bock malt. The middle gets sweeter. The end has some rough, peaty esters. Overall it's still quite drinkable for the size, and a good iteration of an American version of the style, but not excellent.

Bottle to snifter.

Really nice german maibock. Love the maibock style. It's string in flavor, but light for summer.

LOOK: darker yellow, medium white head.
AROMA: malt, wheat, light pine.
TASTE: malt, ginger, lemon. Really great blend of hoppy/malty. If say this is a light malty beer, with some hop presence which gives it some character.
FEEL: medium body, but drinks easier.

Good job Flying fish.
