Poured into a small chalice, this beer was served cold and I'll chart it's progression as it warmed.

Dark and opaque, with no visible head.

Initial aroma is very mild of roast grains. No bourbon at all. As it warmed, the aroma of roast grains became stronger, and some coffee aroma emerged. As it neared room temp, chocolate emerged while the coffee subsided. Still no bourbon.

Initial taste is ethanol and the bitterness of unsweetened bakers chocolate. It's quite boozy. As it warms, the alcohol slowly recedes, but it takes a while. It's not until it's almost room temp that the alcohol subsides, and the chocolate flavor emerges.

This is a beer that needs to be drank at, or near, room temp. When it's cold, it's just a boozy mess. When it's warm, the alcohol blends in and you get some of the chocolate flavor. Still, there's no bourbon flavor or aroma, more of an injection of ethanol.

On-Tap at Hulmeville for Flying Fish night part of beer week. Although I have reviewed the orginal exit 13 this is a far different beer that I had before. Somewhat tasty chocolate notes with a nice velvety like finish has been completely torn down and made into a Bourbon overkill. This now is much like taking shots of Bourbon and chasing with a with a Guinness. Although a nice try this just didn't seem to work.

On tap at Capones last night.

BB 13 pours a blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is also attractive, as I pick up considerable dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The flavor profile replicates the nose (where's the bourbon in this beer?), but with some light dark fruit and some drying bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeels is medium bodied with a fairly long, dark chocolate, lightly bitter finish.

Would really like to compare this to the regular version, as it's really hard for me to believe this version is appreciably different than the normal exit 13. In any event, a nice enough beer, though not one of my favorites of the exit series.

Thanks to Alan for sharing this one. Served in a snifter.

Pours a pretty-dark brown color with a thin off-white white to tan head. Light spotty lacing, but nothing much. The nose carries through mostly bourbon, though that isn't too strong. Some mild malt and roast in the background. The flavor is lightly sweet and has a bit of light bourbon and oak. Pretty boring. Medium or light body with moderate carbonation. Pretty standard all around.
