Smoke, Charcoal, Toast, Tea

Dark and inviting. For a smaller brew, Finback uses a heavy hand of malt, but don’t expect any sweetness here. The ample smoke character never becomes a burden though, as it perfectly compliments the dark malts, which range in flavor from dark bread to tea to tobacco. Hopefully you love smoky beers, because this one throws down pretty hard, with each sip I’m thinking campfires and cigars with a drinkable Mild Ale in hand. In other words, fun.

Unpleasantly murky appearance, hammy smoke is par for the course but nothing special, thin body.

Dark brown color with a thin clay colored head. Foam is quick to flee. Smells smokey with some root beer barrel candy sugary. Tastes like smokey black tea. Has a woody, chicory bitter in back. Thin body. Better at room temp than outta the fridge. Fairly neutral smoke, neither campfire nor bacon. I'd guess inoffensive cherry.

Smoke Detection

Served in a 4 ounce snifter at the brewery.

Light head and persistent lace on the sides and body. Beer looks cloudy brown. 4

Harsh smokiness with a faint peat aroma. Unique. 3.5

Less smokey than the nose with a bit of creamy malt flavor. I start tasting bacon with a few more sips and the beer grows on me. 4

Drinks great, very light, smooth and the smokiness doesn't overpower the palate. 4

I'm a fan of this brewery and this beer. Great stuff.

Dark in color, nice smokey aroma, good body for the low abv, and delicious.
