Brewed in collaboration with Zagovor Brewery from Russia. Smooth and velvety mouthfeel. Toffee, roast and subtle fruit aroma. Malty, notes of caramel, vanilla and deep roasted coffee, finishing with a hint of licorice and dark malts.

Finback Brewery "Massif"
cask @ Mission Dolores, Brooklyn, NY on 6 March 2016
$7 / 14 oz. "pint"
Notes: Baltic porter... so it's a lager? Or cool fermented with ale yeast? Black-brown body beneath a tan cap - nice head retention. Alcohol esters in the aroma - perhaps too much, but then there are other indicators of a high fermentation, or perhaps infection in the cask. Nice fruitiness though with some cherry. And some cassis in the flavor. Typical ashen/charred roastiness and dark chocolate. Balanced.

From 03/04/16 notes. 16 oz. pour in a snifter at Mug's Alehouse in Brooklyn.
Dark brown, almost black. Lots of sweet chocolate, roasted malts, toasted malts, light cream and vanilla. Medium body and moderate carbonation, no alcohol or bitterness to it at all.
Overall a very solid porter...nothing too crazy but I dug it.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving lots of lacy webs running down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark and chocolate malts are present in the nose along with notes of roasted malts.
T: The taste has flavors of charred and roasted malts along with notes of chocolate malts and hints of coffee beans.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This Baltic Porter has lots of assertive and complex flavors and makes for a nice beer to sip and savor on a winter night.
Serving type: growler

Very well-done beer in the style I'm getting ample amounts of dark chocolate and coffee, with just a kiss of caramel and fruity sweetness. Full-bodied mouthfeel with a pleasing aftertaste of smoke and earthiness.
