Earthy, floral spice aroma, chocolatey, roasted nutty malts, coffee, hint of smoke, oak barrel, rye whiskey, caramel, mapley molasses, dark toffee, toasted bread, vanilla, some dark fruits, mild spice, with floral earthy grassy pine. Medium bodied, smooth and creamy.

This is an exceptional beer. Pours pitch black; impervious to light, quite viscous - like motor oil. Big, cream color head that takes its time to fade away. Huge chocolate aroma, loads of bourbon barrel , some vanilla and a touch of coffee on the nose. Flavor is amazing - loads of chocolate, bourbon barrel, vanilla, just a touch of sweetness. Thick and rich, full bodied and creamy. This is a definitive BA Imperial Stout - perfection. I purchased a case of them and the flavor had improved in the past year. Had a bourbon barrel vs rye tasting: rye is a touch spicier and has a shorter finish. Both amazing beers.

Great tasting but a little boozy, let this one age a bit.

375ml capped bottle into a Surly teku. Shared with schen9303.
Nose is booze, chocolate, fudge, a touch of roast and sweet soy sauce. Beer opens chocolate, molasses and sweet soy sauce. A bit of lactose smooths this one out with a fudge and more sweet sauce and booziness on the finish. Body is medium to full with moderate carbonation. A little prickly on the palate but goes down slick and hot with a smooth finish.
Perhaps not as good as the bourbon version but still very solid.
