one of my favorite beers from our entire trip to new york, this is incredible beer. it has pineapple and coconut in it, just like the bourbon one, and just like in that one, its not too much, and they are linked together in aroma and flavor through the whole drink, rightly dosed. unlike the bourbon one though, this doesnt use any orange, which i think is a neat way to differentiate, i dont miss it with how forward the apple brandy is here, quite a bit more pronounced than i thought the bourbon was, and so is the oak itself, which was kind of lesser in the bourbon edition. there is a neat little sweetness to this that brings up a milk chocolate and fudge character from the base malt, and seems to counterbalance a light smoky bitterness. some nice complexity in the grain alone shouldnt be overlooked, but the pineapple and coconut, along with all the apple brandy on this make it one of a kind and absolutely incredible. smooth to drink on, not too boozy for its strength, and a nice change of pace in the depths of winter, feels almost bright to me. awesome recipe and execution to match, this was a total highlight, one of the best finback beers i have ever had! ive got the thirst for more...

375ml capped bottle into Night Shift stemware.
Pours motor oil thick. Nose is heavy on the apple brandy. Notes of char, roasted malt, chocolate, molasses and lactose. A touch rough around the edges. Beer opens apple brandy. Almost minty with hints of booziness. I get molasses, fudge, chocolate, cocoa powder, pineapple, apple and lactose. Creamy. Some roasted malt in the middle balanced by a big dose of vanilla and more fudge. A mellow sweet and soft tartness too. Sweet and syrupy at the finish. The flavor here is fantastic. Body is full with low carbonation. Slick, oily and heavy on the palate and goes down viscous and rich with a messy, lingering finish. Big and bold.
I'm not normally a very big fan of Apple Brandy barrel aged beers but this is pretty solid. Definitely worth trying.
