Pours pitch black, nearly impervious to light. A finger of mocha head is slow to recede. Awesome chocolate aroma mixes with vanilla, coconut, chili powder, wood barrel. Flavor is chocolate and coffee at first, sweet blackstrap molasses, vanillla. The hot chili flavor appears in the middle, and it’s heat pervades throughout and lingers well after swallowing. The Mezcal barrel softens the beer nicely, and is not as metallic tasting as it’s Tequila barrel aged sibling. The beer is not as thick and viscous as I would expect, yet it has a thick and creamy mouthfeel. Overall I liked this one a bit more than the Tequila version. Great job, Finback!
