16oz. bottle into Night Shift stemware. Shared with schen9303.
Nose is mocha, chocolate, pungent coffee beans and a slight booziness. The coffee here is more pronounced than normal. Nice. Beer opens molasses, chocolate, fudge, roasted malt, cocoa powder and booze. A touch of green apple and grape too. Layers of vanilla and more chocolate and coca powder in the middle and end. A touch of sweet soy sauce. Syrupy with a touch of booziness at the finish. It's nice but not so much different than the regular Barrel Aged version. Body is full with low carbonation. Slick, oily and chewy on the palate and goes down rich, sticky, with a lingering aftertaste. BQE has always had a phenomenal feel and the OWA Barrel does nothing to change that.
A really good beer but isn't so different from the regular BQE that it's worth going out of your way for.
