4/20/21 date freshie tall can.
Juiced up pour, leaving some super fine lacing on the glass.
Over ripe pineapple on the sniff with a hint of chives in the finish.
Dank, fruity and quite delicious offering...all the tropical fruits joining the party and adding to the enjoyment and complexity. Mighty fine, highly enjoyable if ya like juiced up and fresh tasting NEIPA....go get some

Get A Grip is a new IPA (canned on 4/20/21) from Finback featuring Zappa, Idaho 7 (though they just say Idaho on the label), Mosaic, and Citra hops. It seemed intriguing enough, but also somewhat familiar, so I picked up a single to see what they could do with this combo. I've only had Zappa in a couple newer recipes from other breweries, so, not gonna lie, this is mostly a review to remind myself about what to look out for when it comes to this novel varietal. Hoping it does some good work to distinguish itself among its revered brethren in such a recipe.
This one pours a ridiculously-opaque and milky orange-yellow color with a very retentive and sudsy head that initially begins as a finger or so but sinks to a half-finger slowly, leaving behind some decent lace. Legs are alright but not amazing, and the rest of it looks exactly like I expect a modern Finback hazydude to look. Not much to say here, really.
Super cereal-like smell with a good bit of mango and papaya backed up by strawberry and pineapple. It's kind of an anonymous and difficult-to-nail-down scent, but I do think it probably heavily features Zappa considering some descriptions of said hop include the term "Fruity Pebbles." No joke, that's weird... it does smell like a bowl of that exact cereal, right down to the creaminess (no lactose here, though!). The Mosaic is bringing out some expressive berry elements, kinda mentioned above, but I also think some dankness and tropical aspects are brought in by the convergence of it with I7 and Citra. Nice smelling stuff. Like a milkshake IPA without fruit, but with actual character.
Flavors of starchy honeyed grain with blueberry, tangerine, and lingering redcurrant elements. Some soft ripe melon notes and hints of other red berries come out, along with a tangible hop burn that is a little distracting and difficult to reconcile. It's not the worst I've felt in a Finback beer before, but it's enough to mention, and it does hurt my enjoyment a bit. The Idaho 7 is bringing out some green tea/matcha/earthy elements that are also a little unusual and don't quite fit with the rest of the beer, but also somehow feel interesting in their own way. Feel is soft but kind of hampered by the hop burn and aggressive hop elements in general. Maybe this is a bit too much for one little 6.5% beer... give the poor thing a break and try this combo in a triple IPA, guys... I think it'd come out way better.
