If you like funky sweet mango, you might love this beer. For me, it is way to sweet and thus sacrifices more balance. Smaller bubble size and creamy mouth feel were pluses. I could not get past the dankness.

On-tap 12/27/2021 at Max’s in Dartmouth, MA, served in a US pint glass.

A: The beer is a very hazy light gold color, with a large dense white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral & dank hops, fruity citrus and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong floral and dank hops bitterness. Then a good juicy citrus and tropical fruit sweetness comes in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Very crisp and very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean for the style.

O: Very tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, very good representation of style. This is a very good 2NEIPA to drink for a long time.

Drank from a 1 pint (16 fl. oz.) can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip

Cloudy yellow ochre appearance. The liquid was topped by a fluffy, finger-tall, bright white crown that quickly dropped to a thin film. Minimal streaky lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was fantastic and continued to improve as the beer sat. Tropical fruits dominated initially. Passionfruit was most noticeable. Bit of mango creamsicle too. Later, the Nelson hops appeared and really made their presence known. Musty white grape notes came through big time and soon took over. All in all, super impressive.

Nelson hops were really prominent in the flavor profile as well. Citrus notes led things off on the front end. Tangerine was most noticeable. Musty white grape notes appeared next and intensified as the beer moved along the palate. Quite sweet but appropriately so. Good dose of pineapple in the center. Grapefruit was apparent on the back end and crescendoed in the finish. Pithy grapefruit rind-like notes trailed after the swallow.

Outstanding soft, fluffy mouthfeel. Somewhat lighter bodied for the style but also super crushable. The liquid contained an ultra fine, zippy effervescence that fluffed up really nicely on the palate.

Nelson hops are unquestionably my favorite hop varietal on the planet, and this beer was definitely an homage to them. I really loved Finback’s Double Something Mosaic double IPA, but this beer was perhaps even better.

Can from Whole Foods on the UES. Pours a hazy yellow gold with a finger of creamy white head that sticks around, smell is pungent sticky mango and pine, gooseberry and tomatillo, hints of white grape must, and yellow cake, taste is candied tangerine, dank gooseberry, yellow cake, hints of tomatillo, herbaceous finish, feel is full bodied, creamy carbonation, medium hop burn. A nice Nelson showcase, something indeed.

Pours an opaque, orange creamsicle color with a thick fluffy head that lasts for probably 5 minutes.

Bright fruity nose with notes of ripe melon, lemon and a touch of dank piney hops.

Flavor follows the nose but with the added tartness of candied orange flavors. Lots of bright citrus notes but also berry sweetness. The finish is long and fairly dry. No alcohol flavor per se but the flavors of the beer are so strong and bright that I'd almost believe this was a 10%.

Feel is relatively thick and creamy, just on the edge of how creamy I like my IPAs. It coats the mough and throat nicely. Nice carbonation which enhances the flavor.

Beautiful IPA. I've had Nelson in a solo context before from Other Half, but I think Finback really managed to squeeze the maximum flavor out of the hops here. In fact, you could fool me into believing this was an Other Half beer. Overall, it's got really big fresh fruit flavors and a great balance of sweet/dry.
