Very cloudy dark yellow (nearly orange) body, opaque but not exactly murky. Good head production and decent retention.
Unbelievably juicy aroma, primarily pineapple and tangerine, with hints of bright green kitchen herbs, peach, and berries. Slightly floral. Blind, I would swear this is fruit juice on the nose.
After presenting a nose like that, this had better be a juicy hop bomb on the palate - and it delivers, albeit not quite as juicy (a nearly impossible ask). Flavor leans slightly more citrus and herbal than tropical. Relatively low sweetness from the pale malt base; it's more crackery than sweet dough. I suspect the imperial version is sweeter, and likely juicier as a result.
Quite a bit of lively bite on the palate; it doesn't quite have the smoothness or fullness of the best NE IPA-style brewers. Long, gum-smacking bitter finish.
Ultimately, this beer can't live up to the insane promise of the nose, but that shouldn't be a reason for hesitation. It's really tasty, and I would love having this one available to me regularly. I'm definitely looking forward to trying more Finback single-hop IPAs.
