The modern American IPA, barley deprived and overly wheated and oated, usually creates an unsatisfactory amount of excessive foam when poured, but this outdoes most of them. Overall, the dank sandy colored liquid and the massive nearly stark white foam, which receded quickly, unevenly and unattractively, makes for one ugly looking brew, especially a proclaimed IPA. It smells mostly of superficially sweet grains, with some vague hoppiness. At least to taste, the hops do provide some earthy and resinous bitterness in commendable fashion, with just a hint of pleasant smokiness. There's no real counterbalance from the oats and wheat backbone. Oats nearly always add positively to the mouthfeel and do so here. They even add a nice cover for the 8% ABV, which is nicely incorporated into the taste. There's only sparse and erratic lacing inside the glass, not enough to salvage a good rating for its looks. This tastes better than its appearance and aroma would indicate, but it's still some barley short of being a decent IPA.

Off putting bitter finish. Going down the drain.
