Vintage 1997
Pours murky amber with crimson hues. An exagerated pour brought a small head of off- white to life, albeit brief.
The spritzy carbonation fizzled quickly leaving behind a placid surface and zero lacework.
Aromatics are malty and vineous. Plump, juicy malt is intermingeled with shades of red wine and a hint of grape jam.
Mouthfeel is cask-like with a low carbonation level, and a bit sticky.
The pallet makes good on the vineous promise. A light lactic twang fits the bill perfectly for an old ale, and adds a teriffic complexity. Extremely fruity, with citrus oils behind dried wine. Bitterness is firm and holds well against a warming alcohol character.
Finishes with some layered fruits, marmalade, and sherry.
