4.5% version, now retired. September 2006: RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. Cloudy golden colour. Aroma: sultanas, oak, yeast. Flavour: yeasty, slightly spicy. Not too sweet. Nice-ish.

Sweet cake, tiny bit of roast, stewed tea.
Taste is sweet again, tea notes, slight dryness. Definite medicinal quality about it but not offensive. No mineral. an essence of coffee is evident. fairly thin and a bit of warming alcohol.
A good beer but a bit more cohesiveness could make a great one.

330 ml bottle from the Pillars of Hercules organic farm store. Consumed at the BB date on the coast of Fife in Kirkcaldy (and a 500 ml bottle in the USA in August 2015).
Full smooth body and full flavor with a hint of dark fruit cake. Dark roasted grains leave a pleasant aftertaste suggestive of black bread, baked raisins and a hint of coffee.

330 ml bottle at 6.2% ABV. Into a tulip glass poured a really dark ruby brown, nearly opaque, with a thing soapy light tan film and lace that sticks around quite well.
S - cherry plummy, some sweet fruit cake, with fruity maltiness and a bit of booze. Definitely some brown sugar sweetness, molasses, slight coffee.
T - sweet and malty, a bit of fruity liqueur and cherry, dryness coming with mild hoppiness leading to a dry herbal finish. Some red fruits, with rich cherry, then some dry sweetness on the end. Quite rich, almost beyond the abv. Semisweet and big caramel and that dominates a bit, hops dont really come through much. Some mild spiciness and alc on the finish dries it out.
M - medium body but a real coating feel to it, some burnt sugary sweetness, little carbonation but drinks really nicely, with a big hit of drying brown sugar coating the palate. Very thick and rich finish.
In keeping with its style, a sweet and fairly complex brew. Some interesting plummy and roast fruit notes with a big malty sweetness up front. A good scotch ale to be sure, better than quite a few but not one i would call amazing. Straightforward but flavourful.

Sampled a bottle brought back from our trip from Scotland. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a slight brownish red hue throughout. Ample foamy with a off white color that held good retention and good lacing but did die through the tasting.
The nose has a bit going on with it. The malt is limited but there is a noticeable malty and caramel aroma. There is more of a strong ester that comes out. Specifically a perfume and plum aroma. Some minor brett notes as well, but not very distinct. Some minor rose peddles and a touch of honey as well.
The taste is a bit more on target but still a bit off setting. The malt comes out with more of a malty taste and a minor toffee and caramel flavor. Some minor nutty notes as well. The esters are there as well, more of a rose peddle taste that comes out as it warms. Some minor brett notes but not over the top. A bit lactic in the finish as well. Some yeasty notes but not over the top.
The body is moderate and a bit carbonated. Would like a bit more depth but that is ok. Overall beyond the base of the beer is good, but the ester thing is just a deterrent for style.

The beer poured an amber-copper colour with a decent off-white head that displayed good retention.
The nose was dominated by (very) sweet malts with honey, spices and a very floral scent.
These ingredients continued through to the taste with an initial burst of honey and hops giving way to a burst of berries and a variety of spices. Finishing with a very floral taste, almost as if someone had added perfume to your pint.
The beer was medium bodied, but the dominance of floral nose and after taste was simply too much for my taste buds. A lot of people like floral beers, however I am not a fan.

Beautiful light amber color. Abundant head (for a scotch), beige in color, quite compact.
Pouring the yeast, quite hazy, too. Not bad.
The smell is fruity, spicy, with bitter orange marmalade notes. Orange peel.
In the taste: peated malt, and then again a good fresh fruity, orange. Light peppery. And a good bitterness that balances it all very well. Good structure.
In the aftertaste a good fresh hop, and spicy. An orange again.
Medium-light body, good round and full mouthfeel.
Good.
