Copenhagen 21/1 2022. 33 cl bottle from Høkeren, Ravnsborggade, Kbh. N. As "Colonel Custard Christmas Ale". Red label with a little portrait of a dog in uniform surrounded by Christmas paraphernalia.
Pours unclear golden amber with a mid-sized yellowish head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma fairly intense with a sweet, malty and slightly salty odor mingling with a prominent scent of alcohol. Sweet malts, cough drops, salt water. Touch of dark alcohol.
Light carbonation. Thin, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and potent. Lingers for a while. Finish is boozy caramel.
A bit on the sweet side but carries the considerable ABV with dignity.

A unusually designed and very elegant lable. A charming portrait of the late brewery dog which it's a tribute to, with red, gold and bright green ivy detailing.
L- Pours a deep chestnut with a very slight haze, with a 10mm mid tan pillowy head. ps 10mins later = head holds up pretty well.
S- A whisky note leads, with a broad richness behind.
T- I get the whisky note and then deep malts and a gentle hop flourish into the finish. I glad I chilled this for 1hr pre opening as the richness is hinting towards becoming a sweet note now and again, ie as it begins to warm.
F- The whisky + deep malts add up to quite a pungent beer. Perfect for slow-sipping in winter for me.
O- Zero to object to, nothing out of place or balance for me. Very elegant, the kind of beer that might suit a special occasion or indeed as a small gift to a hop-head, esp how elegant the lable is.
330ml bottle £4.95 BB: [Not found/Not present]. Bought from BeautfulBeers/BurySt.Edmunds as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
- Now to read the lable for anything of consequence, and ALL the things I missed!
Brewed with barley + wheat. Bottled: 22/10/18 (over 2 years ago). Plus 'the story of this beer', ie a touching/humorous tribute to their brewery dog Colonel Custard.
