ABV varies by batch between 6.5% - 6.8%. Not to be confused with the 4.5% version, which is now retired. Believed to have originated from Edinburgh in the 1800s, the brewing of Scotch ales is now more of a focus for the US craft brewers than for those in its homeland. This beer, however, is a distillation of all that is good in Scotland. A liquid fruit cake with a malty foundation and a rich spice finish, this will fill your palate and astound you for minutes as you unlock the multi-layers of flavour. A blinding pairing with roast lamb and equally good with a dram of Glenmorangie Lasanta.

Pours a dark reddish brown with soft tan head.

Smell is roasted and malty with a bit of sweetness to it. Notes of brown bread, caramel, raisins, brown sugar and some port wine.

Taste is malty, roasted and a bit sweet. Moderate bitterness and notes of brown bread, chestnuts, raisin, brown sugar and some chocolate.

Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and well carbonated.

Overall, a great scotch ale, full of flavor.

330 ml can, as Black Isle Organic Scotch Ale, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Dark reddish brown colour, large to moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, brittle, blackberries and blackcurrants, over-ripe red berries, some earthy hops. The flavour has also notes of malts and caramel, but is not too sweet. Again notes of brittle, hints of berries, distinct earthy hops in the finish.
