Not much of an IPA. I would have guessed this was a coffee milk stout...

AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
SEP 14, 2014
Ice-cold bottle opened with a loud hiss (overcarbed?). Pours to an explosive lathery beige head that laces well. Aroma is smoke, mocha, bread-and-jam yeast esters and citrusy hops. Flavor is a hop-forward rendition of porter or stout with a generous portion of roasty, espresso-like notes blended with citrus and resinous hops. Mouthfeel is medium-full and much like stout. Overall, I’d say this straddles the line of Black IPA and American stout. May not be as bitter as hop freaks like, but within bounds and damn tasty.

22oz bottle
A: 3 finger dark tan head, great retention leaving loads of lacing. Near black body.
S: Plenty of roasted malt. Some grains. Some hop spice & a little citrus.
T: The hops come forward much more than in the aroma. Nice mix of roasty dark malts, chocolate, and grapefruit.
M: Medium-light body & carbonation. Lasting citrus & roast finish.
O: Nice flavor, and while a little light bodied, that doesn't hurt the drinkability one bit. Darn fine offering.
