Pumpkin Pie Porter – Appleton Beer Factory
Appearance – 3.75 / 5
Deep root-beer brown. The head fades fast with no lacing. You wouldn’t immediately think “pumpkin,” but it fits perfectly as a porter. The appearance isn’t as striking as the flavor.
Aroma – 4.75 / 5
Cinnamon, brown sugar, candied yams, nutmeg… pumpkin pie all the way. I can even smell the crust baking. The aroma alone is inviting and perfectly sets up the taste.
Flavor – 4.75 / 5
Pastry in a glass—rich, creamy, and authentic. Vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, eggnog, spices, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie notes shine without being artificial. Crème brûlée and heavy cream flavors balance beautifully. Medium body, subtly hopped, not overly sweet. Alcohol shows up like a gentle “hard root beer,” never distracting. Late hints of clove add complexity. This is dessert-level delicious—seriously, pair it with a scoop of ice cream.
Mouth Feel – 4.75 / 5
Smooth, creamy, and porter-like in body and texture. If it weren’t called a porter, “dark pumpkin” would fit just as well. The mouthfeel matches the rich, pastry-forward flavor perfectly.
Overall – 4.5 / 5
An incredible pumpkin beer experience. Dessert in a glass, balanced, authentic, and highly enjoyable. Appleton nailed this one.
