A Hoplite Soldier was the most common type of heavily armed foot-soldier in ancient Greece from the 7th to 4th centuries BC, and most ordinary citizens of Greek city-states were expected to suit up and make themselves available for the role when necessary. If the Holplites were craft beer drinkers, they would need a flavorful, light-bodied, lower-alcohol IPA to keep them on their toes in case a battle ensued.

Hoplite has the massive hop aroma and flavor profile of a traditional IPA, with the sessionable characteristics of a lower alcohol beer.

This beer uses new hop varieties Belma and Azacca to create flavors and aromas of strawberry, melon and citrus fruits that will have you ready for battle or that afternoon in the hot summer sun.

Poured from the bottle into an elongated tulip glass.

Tangerine clean orange body color. A soapy but got retention off white three finger head. Light collar and some little lacing

Excellent hop bouquet. Juiced up notes of fruits and florals. Ju jube like candy aroma with a hint of earth quality. Real impressive and a sense of a lighter session like body coming.

Juiced palate but definitely going for lighter and session easy drinking body. Hits with spiced pine and fruity pepper character. Exotic fruit flavor in some tropic vein but also of strawberry as well.

Real impressive session IPA and definitely in that vein.

On-tap 8/28/2016 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with a strong fruity citrus flavor. Then a nice floral hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, mild kick, very good representation of style, this is a very solid IPA to drink for a long time.

This is a fantastic session IPA. The beer is very clear and light colored. The body of the beer is light and crushable but not thin. There is a huge punch of citrus hop punch in the aroma and the flavor definitely follows suit.
