Named after Norse Viking chief and legendary king of Sweden, Björn Ironside. Ironside is a bold English-Style Barleywine. The color of this beer is a breathtaking burnt sienna with a gorgeous off-white head. Ironside is full-bodied yet deceptively easy-drinking for 11.3% ABV. 18 months in a single Brandy puncheon allowed this beer to develop complex notes of caramel, toffee, gingerbread, clove, oak, vanilla, and Werther’s candies. The finish is moderately dry and leaves a pleasantly roasty charred oak flavor dancing on the palate. This beer is the first in what will be an evolving series of Barleywine. For that reason, we decided not to adjunct the base beer. The balance and complexity of this beer speaks for itself.

Not hoppy but heavy on the brandy. Too heavy in my honorable opinion. Typically over aging in barrels pushes the beer towards a drain pour but in this case it’s tasty just not my idea of a barley wine.
Dark amber in color. Caramel in the nose. A complex malt beverage. The finish starts very solventy, not hot, almost like nail polish remover (not that I’ve ever drank nail polish remover) then smooths out.

Having a 10oz pour outside the brewery right now. Cost is $8.00.
Ironside is a slightly murky, deep mahogany, with little in the way of carbo. Has a thin, edge-clinging touch of tan foam, with light lacing. Aroma is heavy on malty caramel and toffee, with the brandy being present as well. Has a decent feel, with a medium body.
Flavor also has the same caramel/toffee/brandy foundation as the nose. The oaky, woody aspect also shows up, with some subtle vanilla lurking. Has a fine balance of malts and the fruity brandy. Goes down easily for 11.3% ABV.... Cheers!
