Formerly Not Your Mama's Milk Stout
Creamy sweetness, dark roasted barley, wonderful espresso, chocolate, and vanilla flavor, earthy with slight bourbon undertones. A gentle cozy warmth.

Vernal Mama's Milk Imperial Milk Stout, 8.5% ABV. Pours black with a one-finger light-brown head that left great lacing. Aroma is lactose, coffee, and chocolate malt. Taste is lactose and coffee bitterness. Dry mouthfeel, overall excellent.

12 oz. Can
My first from this brewery.
Poured into a tulip a pretty nice dark brown color, with some pretty nice carbonation, which leaves a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger light tan head, which also leaves a pretty nice medium size oil slick, with some pretty nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is pretty nice, malty, hoppy, with a pretty nice touch of chocolate/toffee/coffee, slight vanilla, slight roastyness. The taste is pretty nice, malty, hoppy, with a pretty nice touch of chocolate/toffee/coffee, pretty nice vanilla sweetness, some roastyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very well, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, very tasty.

From a 6-pack picked up at Big Head's in Missoula, MT
12oz can poured into a Level Belgian-style tulip
P deep mahogany w/ very little translucence; small light tan head; quick recession to thin ring
N med-bold fairly robust nose of sweet chocolate milk notes and light roast; inviting
T follows the nose; smooth, sweet, and satisfying blend of milk chocolate and roast; espresso; no alcohol presence detected; simple, well-balanced, and quite tasty
Mf full-bodied w/ soft carb; creamy and a touch slick
O a well done, easy-drinking milk stout; would pick up again

12oz can. Purchased from state DABC for $2.49
Poured at fridge temp into a nonic glass
Pours deep and opaque black with a 1F milky tan foamy head.
Espresso, milky sweet and fresh coffee aroma
Soft, sweet and smooth coffee
Again, soft and nice medium body building on full.
Overall a great milk stout that I consider the carbo version of Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout

Pours dark brown with some wispy tan head. Smells like chocolate and vanilla and a whiff of alcohol. Tastes bitter dark chocolate at first, a little dry and then the milk and vanilla follow with a little coffee and it smooths out some the more you drink it. Overall a pretty good effort and more like a straight up stout than a milk one but that’s ok too, cheers!

my first from this operation, a solid can of very sweet desserty milk stout that is a huge hit for those who are ardent fans of the style, but which seems on the brink of excessive for the casual drinker. deep brown but decidedly not black in my glass from the can, lively enough but not particularly head in my glass, gentle pour though, ill take some responsibility for that. it smells like chocolate milk, or rather cereal milk from chocolate cereal, with a decided sweet lactose cream element to it and a hersheys syrup chocolate profile, although i dont think there is actually chocolate in it, appealing sure, but definitely rich. to my surprise the body isnt all that full, and the lactose doesnt totally coat the palate, its got more than enough residual sugar, but its neither sticky nor heavy and gross feeling. the chocolate adds depth and a brownie batter component, while the deep roasted barley adds bitterness for balance that i am thankful for, as well as a coffee note and perhaps a touch of astringency to cut the sweet a bit. this is objectively quite well made, hides its alcohol very well, improves as it warms, and it seems wintery and cozy without being colossal. still, at this sugar level i dont want to drink a ton of it, even if its a nice example of the style on the stronger side. i couldnt imagine making an evening of it. i will look for more from these when i am back it utah next.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark mahogany brown with little light transmission and a half finger light khaki head that dissipates to a thick film with nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, mild vanilla and lactose; smells good. Flavor is lightly sweet, dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, vanilla, light lactose and drip coffee; flavorful Medium bodied with light to medium creaminess. This is what I want in a milk stout. The malt is deep with clear toasting notes, there is nice coffee and chocolate character, and mild milky lactose that make it to style while the other flavors are pushing into standard stout territory. Nicely balanced and a great lingering milk stout aftertaste with residual coffee and chocolate. I liked this quite a bit and will pick it up again when I'm in the area.

I always try to find a local mill Stout when I travel and this one was one of those. Purchased it at The Bayou in Salt Lake City.
L-dark, poured from a can, easy pour so not much head. Looks like most all Milk stouts.
S-where is it? Not much there at all. Maybe a little chocolate. No malt. No vanilla. No lactose. Not even much 'beer' smell either.
T-in a word, weak. Strong on the milk, weak on the chocolate. Very low lactose / sweetness
F-I'm not very good at describing "feel'. Nothing of note
O-if you like the milk in milk stouts without anything else, this one's for you.

This is a very good stout. It is Dark and rich - cannot see through this at all. Strong charred grains and coffee. Sweet at first and then really dries out. Not much sweetness on the Milk / Lactose side though. It is a very good stout though.

Charming chocolate brown color with a reddish-brown head of 3 fingers, leaving lovely sheet clouds of lace all the way down as it recedes. Striking. The legs on this beer are fantastic.
Aroma reminds me of dark wheat chex or dry dog food, just a very grainy, dry, musky aroma. Some slightly burnt sourdough toast, slight nutella.
I definitely taste the milk here, almost to a fault, in the form of strongly metallic powdered milk. Follows with a strong influence of Malted Milk Balls, then burnt toast and black jelly bean. If you swig it straight back to the middle of the tongue you bypass many of the metallic flavors so prominent at the tip of the tongue.
Feel is creamy and smooth, though not as creamy as I'd like. Nice carbonation level, a little sticky on the finish.
Overall, a decent milk stout. Nothing spectacular. Not sure if I'd try again.
