A cask bitter poured into a 10 ounce tulip glass at the brewery.
Appearance - Copper color. Hazy. Big time lacing. Nice.
Smell - Malt. Herbal. A whiff of citrusy hops.
Taste - The initial malt flavor is smooth yet slightly toasty (as you might expect from good cask bitter). This bready malt flavor is followed, quickly, by a spicy (but not overpowering) hop bite.
Mouth - Fizzier than your average cask ale. Mildly bitter.
Overall - Imagine a delicious, balanced West Cost Pale Ale (such as Deschutes Mirror Pond) combined with the lush, smooth body of a cask ale. This beer would probably taste exactly like an English cask ESB if it were not for the spicy US hops. The end result is the best of all worlds. A truly wonderful beer!
