Bottle.
A: Herbal, moderate ginger and cinnamon upfront with some light peppers and vanilla in the background. Very faint hint of malt roast.
A: Black color with a large off white head that slowly recedes. Pretty solid retention and moderate lacing in the glass.
T: The base porter’s roast is noticeable upfront, but moderate vanilla, ginger and cinnamon are quickly noticeable.
The peppers add a light heat on the finish and replaces the usual roast bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Quite smooth and not hot, exceedingly drinkable.
O: Interesting; the “Oaxacan hot chocolate” influenced beers are usually stouts, so it’s interesting to see a porter used as a change of pace. The aroma is pretty atypical of traditional porter. Upfront it’s herbally without being super overpowering. The flavors come together really well, the herbal flavors are noticeable without dominating and the peppers add just enough heat.
