this is a big improvement overall from when these guys first got going, or at least when i was first in there, and most of the beer tasted generic and first batchy, and none of them had names. this here is a more refined hefe type, with all the elements right where they should be, but a slightly crisper and more refreshing overall presentation than many of these have, and when ice cold, i reckon its infinitely drinkable, which is a cool feature for an unfiltered wheat beer to say the least. its pale and light looking for the style, less yellow more straw colored and very lively yet without a really tall head. some banana and grassy complexion to the nose and taste, but it doesnt have the over the top estery thing going on at all, and stays a lot more mellow on the yeast front, drier, lighter, and brighter than many, which obviously helps with the sessionability. i am really into the almost lagered feel of it, yet still being able to taste the wheat malt, this is a smartly built beer to me. i like the style being full flavored yet also refreshing like this one, and i like it not being afraid to add a little hops in the end. i remember all their beer being forgettable, if that makes sense, but this is a huge step forward, and a really perfect summery american take on the style. well done here from canyon creek!
