Funk Pumpkin Ale

Poured into a narrow imperial pint glass: color is copper, head is off white and presents 1 finger thick, head dissipates to thin top with some whispy circles and edge along the glass.

Smell is light spice: clove, ginger, cinnamon forward, light pumpkin, light sweet malt.

Taste is similar with spice forward flavor but not over done: clove, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, malt sweetness with light caramel, light pumpkin character.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin and spicy with moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness.

Overall a very good pumpkin ale with thinner feel for the strength but still balance between malt and spice.

Pours a murky light copper color with a half finger of head. The nose is very mild overall - perhaps some mild spiciness. The flavor has some hearty pumpkin notes with a nice compliment of sweetness and spices that are kept well in check. The body is hefty even for the style.

Pours a slightly hazy, honey-orange color. A one-finger head on the initial pour. Fades to a lite skim.

Not much of the familiar pumpkin spice aroma. Maybe a slightly sweet aroma.

A very nice pumpkin beer that is much better than the aroma would hint to. A mix of vanilla, burnt sugars, and mildly sour pumpkin purée. Leans towards the sweeter side. The pumpkin spice is definitely there but it’s in the background and isn’t as dominate as I’ve had in other pumpkin beers. The ABV is not noticeable. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Thicker consistency, rather creamy and smooth. Low carbonation.

I really liked this beer. As opposed to hitting you with overpowering pumpkin spice flavors, Funk has done a nice job of highlighting the natural pumpkin flavors. Pleasantly surprised and would purchase again. Cheers!
