an amazing pale ale here, possibly a series of rotating single hopped pales, but in my case it was all nelson where i was there, and this was a total delight, one of the better hoppy beers i had around portland actually. i think its an incredible expression of the nelson hops, more dynamic and up front than most, so recognizable and distinctive in this drinkable pale. i like the choice to keep this in the pale ale range, bitterness is extremely low, body and alcohol are pretty mild, and this ends up being a wonderful patio drinker, which is where we sat on an awfully nice summer afternoon. peach nectar and guava juice and honeysuckle from these hops, some clean herbal properties too, a hint of coconut flesh, maybe a squeeze of key lime, just dripping juicy and sexy. the beer is well refined and not sloppy or over dry hopped like so many are, and the carbonation is high enough for it to be refreshing for the style. the base beer seems great to showcase single hop varietals, but it seems especially perfect for nelson, so soft even buttery in feel, i loved every drop of this. the beers here seemed better to me in general this time than they did when i was here many years ago, and they were good then. love this place!
