Rated 11-15-2019. Another decent beer from Stormbreaker Brewing. Not one of my favorite styles of beer, but quite good for the style it is. It tastes somewhat like a German beer. 21 IBUs

Had on tap. Sudsy tan cap with thick lacing atop a cloudy amber body, best aspect of the beer easily. Smell and taste are classic yet a maltier version. The nose gets plenty of toasted caramel, nuts, and light herbal hops. Taste has the hops become more earthy, accenting the nuts well. Toasted caramel, general malt and faint grains round out. Feel is malty, medium bodied, smooth yet has some rustic edges. One of their better brews I have had

on a hot and sunny afternoon here, my wife orders the altbier, god love her for it, she has great tastes and always knows what she wants and doesnt want in a beer, i know better than to talk her out of stuff, but im thinking you want the malty amber today? im glad i didnt speak up because we would have missed out on an exceptional pint and something really classically styled and brilliantly executed. i know these guys are adored locally, but i still dont think they get enough love, this isnt an easy style, and they nailed it. deep copper to even mahogany colored, thick and creamy off white head, awesome lace and retention, a nice looking pint. aroma and flavor are very similar, malt driven obviously, but not without a european yeast component and some balancing hops, this is a drinker for a reddish grain forward brew, its crisp even, and rarely does this style satisfy the way this one does, its not that it tastes real different or anything, but it just hits because of its quality, nutty but brisk at the same time, slightly cooked and caramelized, even with a barleywine note to the grain, but also with minerals that make it all move real quick, seem organic, and tie the whole thing together so well. this a one of the better american made examples of the style i can recall. weird choice for a hot day, until you taste it...
