my first new one from these guys in too long, from the pint can, a smart beer on a number of levels, its named after a premature baby in their network and the hop schedule and dosages correlate to birth weights and things, thoughtful for sure, but even without knowing the baby or the people or the story or anything the beer is still smart, the rye and triple pearl hops together are way cool and make this very unique, not to be confused with perle, of which it is a descendent, i never heard of those before this beer, but its to do with the babys name and its a way cool element in what i would describe as a very hoppy pils type, golden yellow and radiant in the glass, a fine crown of white head here too, and ample carbonation. it smells awesome, really rye forward and simple in a good way, earthy with light pale rye malt spiciness, white pepper and minerality, nice with the biscuity pils malt that adds an old world appeal and a touch of sweetness. the hops are more expressive in the flavor than in the nose, but read herbal with soft citrus in the nose, maybe a hint of a spice element playing up the rye, all very fresh and well composed. the flavor is great lots of obvious rye malt, a ton of hops adding bitterness and some neat botanical character from hints of zesty lime to cut lawn to herbal tea, i think it has some noble essence and plays great with the rye in here, bold enough to almost be in that west coast pils space, this is bitter but balanced i suppose, great ingredient driven brew overall, well lagered and light enough bodied to be a crusher. hope everyone involved in this is doing well, a cool tribute beer, good enough to stay in the lineup i reckon, hope to drink more of this one, rye plays so well in pils types, wish it was more common!
