i believe this is just called solar now, but i could be wrong. i dont believe they are two different beers, someone correct me if thats the case. this is a great lager, incredibly light, among the lightest craft beers i have ever had really, but absolutely awesome in the hot summer sun. i was surprised to see it be a little haze, i know helles means bright, so i always assume perfect clarity in the style, but perhaps we have like a keller helles type, if thats not an inherent contradiction. doesnt matter to me though, the beer is awesome, whitewashed looking straw color with a ton of bubbles, a nice yellow low glow, and a full white head. it smells and tastes like german lager yeast first, not heavy though, just because the malt is so delicate and minimal here. soft breadiness in the flavor, a touch of corn sweetness like creamed corn from the can, maybe even a little honey, with an earthy grain element thats really light and an impossible cleanness at the end. its rustic in a way, not just an old world style but it has a very timeless complexion to it, and i like the little bit of rawness to it, sometimes a helles can be overly refined for me, and this goes in the other direction, but its still so professionally done and drinkable. a cool take on the style, im not sure it hits all the marks for the category, but i love this. my first beer from these guys!
