Day Block's Blackberry Rye arrives a clear auburn color. The head is a solid half inch cap of foam that recedes slowly into light lacing. The aroma is of caramel, light toffee, and rye spice all mingled with some underlying blackberry notes. The taste is a mirror image of the aroma. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with a velvety texture, and appropriate carbonation. Overall, this beer is a well crafted malt bomb. The blackberries in it act more like a balancing agent than a flavoring one. Their sweetness contrasts enough with the sweetness of the malts to give the beer some nice complexity. I like it.
