Day Blocke Smokey Oaky arrives a stark black color. The head is a quarter inch of light tan foam that sticks around awhile. The aroma is really well balanced between the smoke, porter, and oak components. The are some nice malted chocolate, and roasted malt notes that are touched by enough smoke and wood to really shine. The taste is similar with a quite clean finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a velvety texture, and appropriate carbonation. Overall, this is a very well crafted beer. It's neither a smoke bomb, nor an oak bomb, but it isn't trying to be. It is, however, a very drinkable porter that is packed with balance.
