Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a dark black color with a two finger off white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Messy sliding lace. The aroma had some dark chocolate, some milk chocolate, and earthy/grassy hop bitterness. The flavor was somewhat sweet with a touch of the hops producing some floral quality now. Aftertaste was a bit dirty through all of the prior mentioned aromas to slide into the finish. The feel was almost medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, decent as a beer, more of an American version of a schwarzbier.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a large brown head that fades slowly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains coffee, licorice, roasted malts, lager yeast, some chocolate and a touch of hops, but there’s a metallic quality to it as well.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a hearty roasted malt character. Then some flavors of coffee, chocolate and licorice come in along with the same metallic flavor that you get in the smell. The hops presence is decent for the style and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.

M: Crisp but not very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, it’s not a bad beer but there are better choices available in the style.

Small beige head. No lace at all, not even in the beginning. Dark brown color where no light passes.

Dark rich caramel aroma with some sweet chocolate to the nose. Reminds me of a dark bock beer.

The smell comes through in the flavor with some rich malt flavor and texture. This beer leans to the sweet side but not so much as to be cloy. The carbonation is low, making the beer seem more rich than I believe it actually is. Short aftertaste.

A friend picked this up for me while in New Hampshire. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a foamy three finger caramel-colored head that fades quickly with minimal lacing. The nose is roasty and malty with subtle cocoa along with hints of toffee, burnt toast, and licorice. The taste follows suit with roasty malt dominating along with hints of licorice, butterscotch, burnt toast, dark chocolate, and toffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with plenty of bitterness up front, and a subtle sweetness on the finish. Overall, this holds its own with some of the best Schwarzbiers I've had here in Germany. Just not a huge fan of the style, but nonetheless, a great interpretation.

From the 650 ml. bottle and poured into a stein. Sampled on June 12, 2014.

It pours dark brown with a ridiculous spillover foamy tan head. Clean-up in the beer aisle!

I am wondering if I picked up a bad bottle. The aroma had some malts buried under a very yeasty, pasty scent that almost felt like it had not been fully brewed. More like a fresh mash than malts.

Good body though, coming in at the medium range.

Like the aroma there was this sort of goaty, yeasty, pasty flavor with some malts and a mild bitterness. But it improved as I drank along. Or maybe I just got used to it. Sorry, so far this was my least enjoyable experience with this new NH brewery. Maybe I'll buy it again to see if I simply got a bad bottle.

Pours a light brown, five+ finger head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Deep ruby almost black color, no highlights. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Toasted malt nose and flavor is burnt malt and some chocolate. $8.25 for a 22oz bottle from Bert's Better Beers Hooksett NH.

22 oz. pilsner glass , Black colour, big dark brown head. Gorgeous roast aroma. Mild taste and a lasting caramelly( just hint) and chocolate roasty palate.
The appearance is not deep black but certainly very dark brown; the head is adequate and lingers. The taste is true to style, quite malty and displaying a long finish.

Nicely done Schwarzbier.
