Schwarzbier, a black lager, is the darkest of all German-style biers (schwarz means “black” in German). Decoction mashing with 100% imported Munich and Pilsner malt in addition to de-husked roasted barley malt produces rich malt flavors of roasted coffee and chocolate, while 100% imported Perle hops from Seitz Farm in Bavaria’s famous hop-growing Hallertau Valley impart moderate bitterness to balance the rich malt character. Weeks of cold lagering with pure Bavarian lager yeast from Andechs, a German monastery brewery, creates a crisp, clean finish. This bier is naturally carbonated by CO2 produced during fermentation and conditioning.

Black in color with moderate light penetration. There’s a fingernail of beige around the rim and covering two thirds of the top. The aroma is of dark, sweet, bready malt. I’m tasting dark, sweet bready malt. The mouth is welcoming and unobtrusive.

12oz bottle pours a deep brown color with a dense, substantial khaki-colored head that fades down to a thin ring. Smells of dark, roasty malts, malty sweetness, and dark fruits. Robust but not heavy flavor of dark malts, along with dark fruits, caramel, and some burnt notes. Mild sweetness, mild bitterness, light body, sudsy carbonation mouthfeel, and a slightly astringent, burnt finish.
This is a very solid Schwarzbier. Would consider buying again.

12 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass. Had 7/25/23.
Pours a fairly opaque dark brown, with a two and a half inch foamy head and a decent amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of chocolate, malt, coffee, light licorice and caramel. Has a light herbal aroma. Flavors of chocolate, malt, some caramel, light licorice and coffee. Has an herbal taste, especially when warm. Smooth, somewhat dry, a good lighter medium body, well carbonated.
A good example of the style. The malt and chocolate notes are most noticeable. I may be the only one picking up licorice, but something was untypical. Enjoyable.

Can't quite place smell...But water in the toilet tank keeps coming to mind. I get a raisin plum taste that quickly becomes bitter and chemical. I actually poured it out and rinsed my glass again thinking I left soap or something in it. Nope. Same thing. Definitely not getting the coffee or chocolate. Finishes dry. Luckily the aspirin taste doesn't linger. Not impressed

12oz bottle. Imprinted on bottle below the label is '0709W212220'.
Brown colored body, with relatively brief light tan head. Ring patterns of lacing left behind.
Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, and a note of coffee.
Taste tastes a moment in the mouth to express, but then the flavors from the roasted malts appear as chocolate, a little char, a little coffee, and caramel cream. The darker notes stick around in the aftertaste.
A little less than medium mouth feel, with a creamy touch. Very good carbonation.
Sweetness in this beer appears to come from the malts, but there is also some char. The hop flavors are floral and a touch fruity. Very easy drinking, with a well balanced taste profile.

L: Pours a dark brown black with a foamy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing on the glass.
S: Some roasted coffee, a touch of caramel and chocolate, Aroma is just OK for the style.
T: Roasted malt, a touch of caramel, notes of chocolate, quite nice taste.
F: Crisp and lighter, medium body.
O: Aroma is a little disappointing but I enjoy the taste.

Pours black with two fingers of fluffy khaki foam. Aroma is toasty, bready, biscuity, chocolately malts with a sly, lightly dry finish. Great start, hitting its notes without lingering. Flavor profile is biscuity, bready, toasty, and late chocolately malts. There is a hint of coffee that pushes the complexity further, but really it remains well centered and balanced. Dry simplicity. Mouth feel is medium-thin with a lightly creamy texture. Overall, a 'dark' forward beer that remains splendidly simple. It's easy drinking.

Feel is medium bodied. Bright carbonation. Dry finish.
Overall a very enjoyable schwarzbier.
