12oz bottle pours a reddish medium brown color with a small, fizzy head of yellow-khaki colored foam that recedes to a thin ring and a tiny island in the center. Smells of dark, rich malts, syrup, and dark fruits. Hearty and rich bready malts dominate the flavor, followed by lots of syrup notes, caramel, molasses, dark fruits, and a hint of red fruit. A small amount of alcohol flavor and heat are present along with the syrupy feel it brings. Full-bodied with a mild sweetness, mild herbal bitterness, slightly bubbly carbonation mouthfeel, and a bittersweet molasses-hop aftertaste.
This was a solid doppelbock, but I'll stick with Weihenstephaner.

Pours a dark brown with heavy fog to the transparency. Head is two fingers of dense khaki foam. Aroma is sharp whiskey, with chocolate, toffee, fig, and raisins crammed in behind. Finish opens up to grassy and resinous hops. Some heat on the nose, but it's not a burner. Flavor profile puts toffee, raisins, dates, and dark fruits at the front, with molasses and chocolate coming on late. Whiskey swells up the back half, adding intensity and heat as the steam engine builds momentum for the finish. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a creamy texture that is just a touch watery around the edges. overall, a little rough and harsh around the edges, with potent whiskey inter-mixed.
