"Ormond Brewing Company Proudly Presents Our Derailed Collection. Putting The Loco In Locomotive. This Collection Of Sour Beers Will Curl Your Mustache. Like Tentacles Reaching Up From The Depth Of The Sea. Bend An Elbow With Our Boys And Tip Your Cap To The Conductor Cause This Train Is Barreling Through.
We Have Chosen Our Oud Bruin Flanders Style Sour Brown Ale For Our Inaugural Release Into The Derailed Collection. Aged For 18 Months In Solid Oak Barrels This Sour Beer Is Made From A Special Blend Of Yeast And Bacteria. It Is Medium Bodied, Reddish Brown In Color And Has A Mouth Puckering Tart Cherry Flavor With A Crisp Dry Finish"
I have had this on tap at the brewery and brought 2 650ML bottles home a while ago. This will be a review of the first bottle.
L Poured down the center of a Delirium snifter. Mahogany color with 1/2" light tan head that dissipates quickly leaving a small amount of lacing around the edge.
S Tart cherry, red wine vinegar, sour apple and slight funk.
T Tart cherry, sour apple, leather, red wine vinegar, grape skin, oak and funk. Nice sour finish with a slight pucker that lingers but is far from being overly sour. Not overly complex but solid with no hint of the ABV.
F heavy side of medium body with just the right amount of prickly carbonation. This is a little heavier body than typical for the style but it works with this beer.
O This is a tasty american version of the classic Flanders style. Not overly complex, not a Duchesse De Bourgogne by any means but a good solid beer with an unnoticeable high ABV that I will visit again. Good job Ormond Brewing and I look forward to trying more in the "Derailed" series.
