Dark orange color with off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, tart, woody and a bit boozy. Taste starts slightly malty with wood notes, not really sweet, just balanced. No tartness on the taste. Some hops on the finish with the woody, earthy notes lingering throughout the whole drinking experience. Body is quite light and dry for the high ABV but also mineral somehow. Carbonation is nice and crisp, making it easy to drink. Alcohol is handled quite well, warming but not boozy. Not bad overall, aroma was a bit intimidating but the taste is very well rounded. Maybe the aging has also done some good.

The look has a copper feel to it. Or burnt orange.
Smell starts with caramel, a bit of citrus, some grass tones with a mild aroma of spices. The downside is tha harsh alcohol that should not be there.
Taste keeps the caramel touch but with nothing much else.
A very decent effort but nothing special.

I had the 2013 version before and I didn't like it at all. The tree flavor was harsh and it was way too alcoholic. I wouldn't have bought this years edition myself, but I got it as a present from my sister at Christmas. I didn't touch it for such a long time, but now as I am cleaning out the beer cellar, I opened it.
It is a copper coloured beer with a rather unstable white head. The aroma is dominantly pine and some amber malt as well. If I wouldn't know that it actually got pinencones in it, this could also come from American hops. The taste is still a bit alcoholic but again the tree flavors are well integrated. Body is medium and carbonation is towards flat. Overall, I like this much more than last years edition. It uses whole pine cones (but not the sap) from the Scharzkiefer, but it still delivers a beverage clearly indentifiable as a beer.

Brewed with sap, yes that's right, tree sap! Kind of a barley wine feel to the beer. Nice golden color. Smell is a little spunky, but not apparent in the taste. Alcohol is noticeable but not off putting. Interesting experiment.
